Frogs, campfires, kids and pictures

So far, I love it here!

I get to work with kids in the morning teaching them about the environment and etc. Then in the afternoon I get to create lesson plans and activities for later classes and afterschool sessions! (This weekend I plan on going spider catching for a program I have coming up next week :D )

I live no less than 10 steps from a barn that has pigs, sheep, cattle and chickens. My roommate and I have already taken some eggs from the barn and made some yummy breakfasts! There is also a campfire area right across from the barn. Some of us, other SCA interns and some of the farm interns, have already had a campfire night with marshmellows and all!

Last night I was doing some research for another amphibean program and ran around the farm and pond catching frogs and toads. I plan on catching them in a few weeks and using them as display specimens for one of my classes! :-D

I have taken a BUNCH of pictures. This place is beautiful and hopefully I can get them up on the internet soon!

Poison Ivy

Today at about 6:34am I realized that I had my first encounter with poison ivy. I abrubtly woken by an itchy, painful frenzy circulating my ankles . . . I proceeded to itch them, but the itching only made it worse.

At that point I finally realized that the bumps all over my legs were not mosquito bites, but were instead a nice parting gift left by a poison ivy plant from a hike the day before. :( The welts/bumps have spread all over my legs from the knees down to my feet. Hopefully thiscalamine lotion will help. We shall see!

Here are some pics of it...but they do my pain no justice lol it's worse in real life!

My first job...My first blog!

About two and a half months after graduating from college I decided to take a 10 month journey to the land of environmental education and conservation via Wappingers Falls/Beacon, New York. This journey has physically removed me from those that I love. Therefore, the purpose of this blog is to bypass this disconnect and stay united with the people from which I am physically removed.

Pictures and etc will be coming soon. I have to figure out a way to make them all smaller. :-D Enjoy!
